Nelson Mandela will be remembered as a man who gave all for freedom and forgave all for peace. South Africa’s first black president and the greatest warrior in the fight against the nation’s apartheid regime spent 27 years as a political prisoner. Upon his release in 1990, he stood at the crossroads of retribution and reconciliation. His choice, and his leadership as president, pulled a nation out of darkness and set a standard for the world. Mandela, known affectionately as Madiba, died December 5, 2013. People from all nations mourned. Above are some words from those who knew and admired him.
