Les rhinoc\u00e9ros ont \u00e9t\u00e9 ensuite lib\u00e9r\u00e9s dans le parc national Liwonde au Sud du Malawi, o\u00f9 les soldats britanniques offrent une formation aux gardes forestiers luttant contre le braconnage.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab C\u2019est l\u2019un des transferts internationaux de rhinoc\u00e9ros noirs les plus importants jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent \u00bb, d\u00e9clare Peter Fearnhead d\u2019African Parks, qui restaure et g\u00e8re environ une douzaine de parcs dans 10 pays.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019op\u00e9ration a \u00e9t\u00e9 conduite de concert avec World Wildlife Fund South Africa (Fonds mondial pour la nature &#8211; Afrique du Sud) et les gouvernements du Malawi et d\u2019Afrique du Sud.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Notre vision commune consiste \u00e0 renforcer les populations de rhinoc\u00e9ros existantes du Malawi et de soutenir les efforts r\u00e9gionaux visant \u00e0 pr\u00e9server cette esp\u00e8ce en danger critique d\u2019extinction \u00bb, d\u00e9clare M. Fearnhead.<\/p>\n<p>Brighton Kumchedwa, directeur de la faune sauvage et des parcs du Malawi, d\u00e9clare que l\u2019initiative renforcerait la population de rhinoc\u00e9ros qui avait disparu au Malawi en 1981 avant la r\u00e9introduction de quatre rhinoc\u00e9ros en 1993.<\/p>\n<p>Les autorit\u00e9s du Malawi refusent de r\u00e9v\u00e9ler le nombre actuel de rhinoc\u00e9ros pour raison de s\u00e9curit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>M. Fearnhead d\u00e9clare que les rhinoc\u00e9ros nouvellement r\u00e9introduits seraient \u00e9quip\u00e9s de capteurs GPS et que les animaux seraient pist\u00e9s par surveillance a\u00e9rienne et par des patrouilles quotidiennes de gardes forestiers.<\/p>\n<p>Les rhinoc\u00e9ros noirs, jadis abondants dans toute l\u2019Afrique subsaharienne, ont d\u2019abord souffert de la chasse pratiqu\u00e9e par les colons europ\u00e9ens. Plus tard, les braconniers les ont essentiellement an\u00e9antis : en 1993 selon le WWF (Fonds mondial pour la nature), on en comptait seulement 2.475.
