En janvier 2022, la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 mini\u00e8re australienne Groupe BHP a annonc\u00e9 qu\u2019elle avait investi 40 millions de dollars dans un projet de nickel tanzanien. Il s\u2019agissait du premier nouvel investissement de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>La soci\u00e9t\u00e9 priv\u00e9e Kabanga Nickel bas\u00e9e au Royaume-Uni sera charg\u00e9e du projet et anticipe de d\u00e9marrer la production en 2025. L\u2019op\u00e9ration vise \u00e0 une production annuelle d\u2019un minimum de 40.000 tonnes de nickel, 6.000 tonnes de cuivre et 3.000 tonnes de cobalt, selon The Africa Report.<\/p>\n<p>Kabanga d\u00e9tient 84 % du projet et le gouvernement de Tanzanie est propri\u00e9taire du reste.<\/p>\n<p>Ce n\u2019est pas le seul projet de nickel anticip\u00e9 en Tanzanie. En juin 2022, Resource Mining Corp., autre soci\u00e9t\u00e9 australienne, a annonc\u00e9 des plans pour un programme de forage dans son projet de nickel-cobalt de Kabulwanyele dans le district tanzanien de Mpanda, selon le service d\u2019actualit\u00e9s d\u2019affaires australien Small Caps.<\/p>\n<p>Le besoin accru pour le nickel est d\u00fb \u00e0 la transition progressive de l\u2019industrie automobile mondiale vers les v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. On trouve le nickel de classe 1, sa forme la plus pure, au projet Kabanga dans le Nord-Ouest de la Tanzanie. Il est utilis\u00e9 dans les batteries lithium-ion pour les voitures \u00e9lectriques. Les responsables de Kabanga d\u00e9clarent qu\u2019ils s\u2019attendent \u00e0 ce que les constructeurs automobiles ach\u00e8tent plus de la moiti\u00e9 du nickel produit au site.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019Africa Report note que l\u2019\u00e9ch\u00e9ancier du projet Kabanga pr\u00e9dit une production annuelle de nickel \u00e9quivalente \u00e0 un minimum de 65.000 tonnes. La dur\u00e9e de vie de la mine est d\u2019au moins 30 ans.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Les analystes d\u00e9clarent que la Russie produisait environ 15 % du nickel mondial de classe 1 en 2021. L\u2019invasion de l\u2019Ukraine a provoqu\u00e9 une mont\u00e9e des prix, qui ont doubl\u00e9 \u00e0 un moment donn\u00e9 pour atteindre un chiffre record.
